Drug charges filed against driver who fled accident

| Dec 21, 2017 | Uncategorized

A recent hit-and-run crash resulted in criminal charges for an out-of-state man. Illinois police claim that the driver fled the scene on foot, sparking a search that ended in his arrest. Apparently still in police custody, he is facing serious drug charges into addition to other allegations.

The car accident occurred in the early hours of the morning on Dec. 14. The collision involved two vehicles, and it is unclear which driver was out fault. However, a 37-year-old man exited his vehicle and ran away from the scene. Police did not state how many individuals were in the other vehicle or if there were any injuries related to the accident.

Authorities used a K-9 dog to help in the search for the driver who fled. Firearms and methamphetamine were found either in his car or on his person, which resulted in charges for unlawfully possessing a firearm as a felon, aggravated possession of a stolen firearm and possession of methamphetamine. He was also charged for not reporting an accident, improper lane usage and driving without a valid license.

As it appears that the man might have prior criminal convictions, subsequent criminal charges could have an especially profound impact on his life. Jail time for drug charges as serious as these can be quite lengthy and are often accompanied by steep fines that can be difficult for the average person in Illinois to pay. For most defendants, it is important thoroughly understand all charges and related evidence when beginning criminal defense preparations, and many choose to utilize the guidance of an experienced counsel during this process.
