Facing criminal accusations can be an incredibly stressful experience. Defendants often worry about the impact that a criminal conviction may have on their lives. This is especially true for Illinois defendants who are facing drug charges, which can carry severe consequences, including hefty fines and even years in prison.
Bond is set at $500,000 for a 35-year-old Illinois man in police custody on multiple criminal allegations. Accused of unlawfully possessing a firearm and possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver, authorities claim that this is not the first time he has been involved with illicit activity. Reportedly, past convictions include aggravated vehicular high jacking and multiple controlled substance possessions.
His recent arrest began when authorities accompanied the man’s parole agent during a parole compliance check. During that visit, police claim that they spotted cocaine in the kitchen, but the paroled man denied access to the rest of his home. Upon returning with a warrant, a search allegedly turned up cocaine and a firearm, the latter of which was reportedly stolen in another state back in 2006. Materials used for packing drugs were apparently also found in the home.
This man’s drug charges constitute a Class X felony, which is incredibly serious. Not only could he face up to 30 years in prison if convicted, these types of felonies do not allow for the option of probation. When facing allegations such as this, defendants are well-advised to begin defense preparations under the guidance of experienced criminal defense counsel. By taking the time to consider all options and possible evidence, most Illinois defendants can secure the best possible outcomes for their own unique situations.
