Criminal allegations alone can have an impact on a person’s personal and professional life, and a conviction is much more severe. For those who work within law enforcement, the result of a similar situation can be devastating. An officer in Illinois has been placed on desk duty while awaiting an internal investigation after he was recently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Another officer claims to have caught the man travelling more than 35 miles per hour over the speed limit in the early hours of the morning. The officer alleges that after he attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the man turned onto an exit ramp and lost control due to speed. The officer also asserts that the man appeared impaired and was emanating a strong odor of alcohol, and there was an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.
Field sobriety tests were apparently initiated, which the driver allegedly failed to perform at a satisfactory rate. He allegedly declined to undergo further testing and was taken into custody shortly after. He has been placed on administrative duty while awaiting the internal investigation. If convicted of driving under the influence, he would face severe penalties, potentially including time behind bars and a loss of employment.
Individuals who are facing accusations for drunk driving often wish to protect their future by challenging the charges. Since this can be complex, accused individuals in Illinois may choose to speak with an attorney for assistance in navigating the process. An attorney can evaluate the charges against a client, advise him or her of the potential consequences, and provide advice on the best course of action to take moving forward.
