Men facing drug charges after search of home

Traffic stops are made frequently all across the state throughout every day by Illinois police officers. While many drivers receive warnings, others may be ticketed for running red lights, not stopping at stop signs or speeding. One Forsyth man now faces drug charges after what started as a routine traffic stop.

According to reports, a 29-year-old man had been pulled over by police for an unspecified violation. For reasons unknown, the officers escorted the man back to his home. At that time, a warrant was executed and the man’s home was searched by detectives from Decatur and Macon County. Officers allegedly discovered cocaine, marijuana and some cash during their investigation.

Officials claim that the man informed them that he had hidden cash in the home. Evidently, after searching the furniture, police found almost $7,500 in cash. According to documentation, they also discovered almost 6 ounces of marijuana and nearly 4 ounces of cocaine. The cocaine was reportedly valued at nearly $11,000.  The police reported that the unemployed man said he sold the substances to support his family.

Another 29-year-old man, who apparently owned the home, was also arrested after 53 pressed pills were located in a bedroom. A pistol was also discovered during this search, according to officials. Both men are being held in the Macon County Jail and face several drug-related charges.

Being convicted of drug charges in Illinois can result in potentially serious consequences. A person may have to pay large monetary fines or spend a significant amount of time in jail. To avoid or reduce these penalties, it would be wise to contact an Illinois criminal defense attorney as soon as possible. A knowledgeable lawyer can assist clients in presenting the strongest defense possible.
