Law enforcement agencies in Illinois and elsewhere around the nation frequently work together to investigate supposed drug operations. Some of these investigations may span several months or even years. Three men currently face several drug charges following a multi-agency operation in Christian County.
According to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, a 22-year-old man and two 25-year-old men were arrested on drug trafficking charges. The men were evidently under surveillance by the Central Illinois Enforcement Group, a task force comprised of numerous agencies. When the men were stopped for a traffic violation, officers allegedly discovered methamphetamine in their car. Reports show that over half a pound, 259 grams, of meth was seized during the stop.
The men remain in custody after their arraignment in Christian County Circuit Court. If convicted of the charges, these individuals may face from 18 to 80 years in prison. The task force involved has been in existence since 1986. In addition to the Christian County Sheriff’s Office, the Illinois State Police also participated in the investigation. Other Central Illinois city police departments and sheriff’s offices also provided assistance.
Facing drug charges in Illinois is a serious matter and should not be taken lightly. If convicted, someone could be required to pay hefty fines and/or spend a significant amount of time in prison. Everyone has the right to fight any charges brought against them with a strong defense. An experienced criminal defense lawyer would serve as a valuable ally in the legal process. A trusted attorney will work diligently on behalf of clients to ensure that their rights are protected and any negative impact on their lives is minimized.
