Attempting to evade authorities is never advisable. Fleeing on foot or in a vehicle can put the health and safety of everyone nearby at risk, and could even lead to further suspicion of criminal activity. A man was recently arrested and is now facing multiple drug charges after he was taken to a hospital following an alleged police chase in Illinois.
Police claim that a warrant was issued for the arrest of the man. Upon approaching him, they say he jumped into a nearby car and began to flee. According to reports, he wrecked the car after traveling a short distance, and continued on foot. They assert that after catching up to the man, he appeared to be in need of medical attention and allegedly advised them that he had swallowed narcotics.
Authorities also claim that a subsequent search of the vehicle, along with his residence, revealed various drug paraphernalia, in addition to other controlled substances. Although he was rushed to a hospital following the alleged incident, he will likely be taken into custody following release. The charges against him, which include possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, carry severe penalties if a conviction is obtained.
Individuals who are facing drug charges have the right to obtain legal counsel before responding to accusations. By speaking with an attorney, a client in Illinois could obtain some much-needed guidance on making informed decisions throughout this stressful and intimidating process. A defense attorney can evaluate the charges and evidence against a client and assist in pursuing the best outcome possible given the circumstances.
