Abandoned vehicles are often tampered with or used for storage by various individuals across the country. A person can store any manner of things inside a such a vehicle. If drugs are allegedly discovered upon a search of the vehicle, police may seek to question the owner. An Illinois man is now facing drug charges after allegedly abandoning his vehicle a week prior to a search thereof.
According to police, a search was underway for a stolen vehicle that was apparently transporting stolen weapons. While attempting to locate the car, police claim to have come upon an abandoned vehicle. They advised that a search of this vehicle uncovered various amounts of methamphetamine and cannabis, along with drug paraphernalia. They assert that after attempting to tow the vehicle, a man showed up and claimed ownership.
He was subsequently charged with possession of, and possession with intent to deliver, methamphetamine. How they determined the man culpable of possession was not listed, nor was there any indication of what may have led to the search of the vehicle, such as if it was illegally parked or certain evidence was clearly visible. Either way, he is facing severe consequences and is likely focused on preparing his criminal defense.
