Truck driver facing drunk driving charges following traffic stop

On Behalf of | Apr 17, 2017 | Uncategorized

Countless individuals across the country have been accused of driving under the influence of alcohol. Similar charges can create various hardships for an individual, even if he or she is not convicted. Accusations alone can be a stigma, affecting a person’s life in various ways. A truck driver may experience similar difficulties after he was recently arrested and accused of drunk driving in Illinois.

According to authorities, the driver of the truck was involved in a traffic stop during a 24-hour semi inspection check. They claim the man was extremely uncooperative, and upon opening the cab, authorities uncovered several bottles of alcohol. There has been no indication of the methods used to determine the driver was actually intoxicated at the time, such as the performance of field sobriety tests.

Driving long distances over a short span of time can have various affects on a person, which can, in some cases, be mistaken for something else entirely. For instance, a drowsy driver may exhibit many of the same signs as someone who is intoxicated. Certain medications may also have a similar effect, causing an individual to appear drunk. When facing DUI charges, there must be sufficient evidence to indicate that an individual was intoxicated at the time before a conviction can be obtained.

Overcoming charges for drunk driving alone can be challenging. When facing such a stressful situation, many individuals in Illinois and elsewhere seek legal counsel for assistance in forming a strong defense. An individual who is accused of a similar crime may choose to retain the services of a knowledgeable attorney. An experienced defense attorney can evaluate the charges, as well as the evidence involved, and advise his or her client on the best course of action to take moving forward.
