Illinois police officer suspected of drunk driving

On Behalf of | Feb 27, 2017 | Uncategorized

More and more individuals are being stopped for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol each year. If an accident occurs under these circumstances, subsequent charges can be severe. A police officer was recently arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after he ran into a utility pole in Illinois. He will likely seek legal counsel for assistance in defending against the charges.

After receiving report of the crash, officers arrived to find the man’s truck off the road, covered in power lines. Reportedly, he claimed to have forgotten about an upcoming curve and ran off the road, despite having knowledge of the area. Officers allege that there was a strong smell of alcohol present and that he was exhibiting impaired speech at the time. The man refused to take part in sobriety tests and was arrested on suspicion of DUI.

The man’s wife was with him at the time, and she informed officers that she was driving the vehicle. Police claim to have proof that the man was, in fact, behind the wheel when the accident occurred. So far, there has been no indication as to what this evidence may be.

A successful conviction of this nature is serious and can have an impact on his employment as a police officer. By forming a strong defense strategy, he may seek to challenge the charges, but doing this alone can be difficult. When facing charges for drunk driving, many people in Illinois retain the service of an experienced attorney. An attorney can review all evidence against a person and form a strategy that may assist in reducing the charges and, in some cases, get them dropped altogether.
