Plainfield man facing drunk driving charge following crash

On Behalf of | Jan 29, 2018 | Uncategorized

Many thousands of motorists drive on Illinois roads and highways every day as they travel for business or personal reasons. The majority of travelers arrive at their intended destinations without incident. However, many factors can contribute to accidents on the road. A recent multi-car crash left one motorist dead and another facing drunk driving charges.

The Illinois State Police report that four cars were traveling south on an interstate early one morning near Bollingbrook when the crash occurred. Details of the incident are still being investigated by the Crash Reconstruction Unit. However, records show that a 31-year-old man was transported to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead at the facility.

Reports reflect that a 36-year-old Plainfield man was also involved in the crash. He was also taken to a hospital for injuries suffered in the accident. Officers stated that the man was charged with driving under the influence following his examination at the hospital.

One of the drivers involved fled the scene of the accident. Police are continuing the search for this driver. There were five passengers in the three cars remaining at the scene, according to police. No additional injuries were indicated in the reports.

While there is no indication the person charged with drunk driving caused the accident, the DUI charge is still a serious one. If convicted, someone could lose his or her driver’s license, be required to pay a fine and/or face significant time in jail. To minimize the negative impact on a person’s life, it would be helpful to seek the guidance of an Illinois criminal defense attorney. A  trusted lawyer can work with clients to achieve the best possible outcome in the proceedings.
