1 facing drug charges after search in parking lot of local store

Facing allegations for a repeated drug offense can be a stressful and daunting process. Penalties for successive convictions increase in severity, and for someone with a previous record, suspicions of criminal activity could be heightened. An Illinois man was recently taken into custody and is facing drug charges after police allegedly found him in possession of heroin in the parking lot of a local store.

Local police assert that a call was placed notifying them of a man who was apparently asleep behind the wheel of a running car at a nearby store. Upon arriving at the scene, they claim that the subject was standing next to the vehicle and appeared to be impaired. When questioned by authorities, the man allegedly advised police to search him, which they claim revealed three bags of heroin that were hidden in his hat.

According to reports, the man was out on parole in relation to four previous drug-related convictions after spending as many as three years behind bars. He is now facing felony possession charges, the consequences of which would likely be devastating if he is convicted. When facing a similar situation, an accused individual might find it beneficial to seek assistance for the road ahead.

Those who are facing drug charges have rights that must be protected throughout the process. Before responding to allegations, an accused individual will often speak with a defense attorney for guidance on making informed decisions. An attorney in Illinois can evaluate the charges and evidence against a client, ensure his or her rights were not violated in any way, and assist in forming a strong defense for use during court proceedings.
